Carriage Driving for Wellbeing is a unique, inclusive wellbeing project delivered by Carriage Driving Community CIC, using the therapeutic power of horses, outdoor activity and meaningful social connection to improve physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
We provide accessible carriage driving experiences for people of all ages and abilities, including individuals living with disabilities, long-term health conditions, neurodiversity, social isolation, anxiety and reduced confidence. Sessions are tailored to each participant, creating a safe, supportive and empowering environment where people can reconnect with movement, nature and community.
Carriage driving offers gentle physical activity, builds coordination and confidence, supports emotional regulation, and encourages positive social interaction. Many participants report improved mood, increased motivation, reduced isolation, and a renewed sense of independence and purpose.
Working with the NHS – Social Prescribing
We are proud to work alongside the NHS and local Social Prescribing networks, offering our services as a non-clinical wellbeing option for people who may benefit from community-based support. Through Social Prescribing, individuals can be referred to our sessions by link workers, GP practices or healthcare professionals as part of a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
Our programme supports:
• Mental wellbeing and emotional resilience
• Physical activity and gentle rehabilitation
• Confidence, independence and self-esteem
• Social connection and reduced isolation
• Meaningful engagement with animals and the outdoors
Sessions can be delivered one-to-one or in small supportive groups, depending on individual needs and goals.
Fully Inclusive and Accessible
Accessibility is at the heart of everything we do. We welcome wheelchair users and people with visible and non-visible disabilities, offering adapted equipment, patient coaching and flexible session structures. Our focus is always on ability, not limitation.
A unique strength of our programme is the opportunity to drive a variety of equines, helping participants build transferable skills, adaptability and confidence — not just experience with one horse. This develops stronger long-term capability and independence in carriage driving.
Community Impact
Carriage Driving for Wellbeing brings people together, builds friendships, supports recovery and enhances quality of life. Whether someone is looking to rebuild confidence after illness, manage ongoing health conditions, reconnect socially, or simply experience the joy of carriage driving, our project creates positive, lasting change.
Bringing people, horses and smiles together.
